“Please indulge me.
Now, meet Akyedi. She is 1.5years old.
You know her. But you haven’t meet her like this before. Akyedi is the surviving twin born preterm sometime ago.
Her father, a trotro driver sold his mattress, fridge, television set, took loans etc to keep up with bills.
He quickly became ‘debt distressed’. The young father lost his job because his car owner said he wasn’t mentally fit to drive his car. While that was true, it left him jobless with no plan B. His ‘severance package’ was GhC200.00 from his car owner.
Indeed, (I don’t like using this indeed word koraa. Gh politicians love it too much) but indeed, Akyedi was super frail when I first saw her. She is the first reason I ever visited a NICU in my life. One of the healthcare people described her weight as that of ‘a full dressed chicken’! I have never forgotten that simile.
Unlike her other twin who is no more, Akyedi is here to see and witness the beautiful country she has been born into.
When she grows and she ever feels like giving up, she will remember the story her parents told her. The story of beautiful strangers on social media who sent love her way so her bills could get paid. God saved her life through your tokens of love. There was enough to cover her dad’s debt and something for the pocket too. When last we spoke, he mentioned he’d love to do Uber but he doesn’t have a car yet.
Akyedi will be a great daughter of the soil. She will serve this land with all her heart and might! And she will pursue an agenda in honour of her dead twin sister, (sorry) to ensure that, other babies don’t die because their parents are poor and unable to pay their bills promptly. 🥺 #OnGod she will be great!
Please indulge.
I wanted to keep this photo to myself. And relish it all alone, amazed at what God has done. See her eyes, her cute face and the rings on her neck! And then I am conflicted about sharing a child’s photo on social media. That informs my reason for not adding her before photo.
But heck!(I see ‘woke’ people like using this word paa. I think it will fit here o) ok so again, heck!! God has been good!!!
So I am sharing this with you because when I first wrote about her, many of you prayed for her. Some of you sent money towards her bills. And yet, others went as far as using their networks to get her additional help. The mere fact that your eyes were on her matter kicked in additional sense of urgency! You barb? Yeah…won shout.
Thank you and God bless you pii! To the medical officers, I promised some sustained campaign to ensure the tools you use for work get better right? It has fallen in water chale. They stress I went through to get an interview keke mpo comot the thing from my eyes! But God bless you ok?
Finally, I can sense your haste to share some of these stories with me. You see, people don’t help because they have a lot of money. They help because they care. And you don’t get results like this, necessarily because you have plenty following. Often, it’s a few out of the lots, who are led to. And they are often the same people.
So don’t think you can’t use your social media to get results. Explore it too na wop3 vawulence dodo! 🤣”
