The Hall Executives of Koforidua Technical University express our strong condemnation of the recent actions taken by the management of the institution to increase the hall residence(Getfund Hostel) fees by a whooping 53% for 4-in-a-room and 50% for 6-in-a-room.
The previous hall residence fees were 1,300 cedis for 4-in-a-room and 1,200 cedis for 6-in-a-room. The hall residence has rarely seen developments and also the state of the facilities are deplorable and nothing to boast about. Increasing the fees to 2,000 cedis and 1,800 cedis respectively is very awful.
It is deeply troubling to see such a huge increment and it is important to address it in a clear and direct manner. The impact of these increments has caused low class students who depend on the affordable hall residence to be helpless and in grief and has also created a negative perception of our institution and its management.
As elected hall executives as well as concerned students, we urge and plead with the management of Koforidua Technical University to take immediate and appropriate action to drastically reduce the hall residence fees.
We trust that the management of our noble institution will take this matter seriously and address it with the utmost urgency.
