Ghanaian reggae or Kuchoko artiste, dub poet and a radio presenter of 3Fm, Blakk Rasta has in an interview on 3Xtra has added his voice to the approval of the Narcotics Control Commission Bill, 2023 by parliament.
The Narcotics Control Commission Bill, 2023 has been approved by Parliament.
This means that the Ministry of Interior is required to grant licenses for the cultivation of cannabis in order to make it possible to use this plant for a variety of advantageous purposes.
The purpose of the bill, according to a report from the Committee on Defence and Interior, is to amend the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019). To give the Minister the authority to issue a license for the industrial, for the production of fiber or seed, or for therapeutic purposes, cultivation of cannabis with a THC level of no more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.
In reacting to the news of the approval of the bill, Blakk Rasta expressed how happy he is as an individual to see to the passing of this bill. He added that though he doesn’t smoke marijuana as many people perceive he is glad a course he has stood for has been achieved.
He further went ahead to say that, as a country we boast of black gold in the form of crude oil, the yellow gold and the green gold which is the marijuana and therefore sees no reason why it’s was criminalized. He stated that we rather run to countries that have decriminalized theirs and making good use of it for financial assistance.
Blakk Rasta in the interview added that he is glad to have live long enough to see this happen because he remembered being dragged to parliament to answer questions on why marijuana should be legalized and that made some people make mockery of him.
He finally added that Parliament should now again invite him to the house and be crown the king of Ganja.
He however advised that since this is a new thing the authorities involved should put rules in place to ensure that not just anyone can get up and start to plant it to prevent the misuse of it.
