Shatta Wale, the African dancehall king who organizers of the Ghana party in park show advertised as the headline artiste but failed to appear spoke on reasons for his absence with Hitz FM’s Andy Dosty on a phone interview
Below are some key points he made
1. He planned with the main organizer, Dennis the CEO of #akwaabauk like 4months ago when he was in the USA to do a partnership with his #GOGALBUM alongside the show, and with that, he’s not going to charge him for any performance or appearance fees and both agreed to that effect
2. The only demand was for Akwaaba to provide and make sure that his team gets visas to travel with him to the show and also promote the GOG ALBUM in collaboration with the event.
3. It was only for him to see his image and name on a flyer for the concert without anything to do with the GOG ALBUM part of it as a collaboration
4. He then asked why, and he ( Dennis ) said his team didn’t agree to the initial plans, which he didn’t get back to him to discuss before putting his name out as a performer.
5. For brotherhood and also his relationship with him, he didn’t want to disappoint him and the fans so he let that go and looked into a different plan.
6. He then told him if he has decided not to go by the initial arrangement both agreed to do, then he’s demanding payment for his appearance and performance, he can’t perform for FREE anymore as agreed initially like 4months ago.
7. This is where the organizers also started to drag their feet and didn’t strike any good deal to pay for his charge for the show.
8. He says he’s considering and speaking to his lawyers for a court suit for using his name and image for the concert, and also not getting the needed visas for his team as agreed, their inability to pay for his services, plus disappointment to his fans that bought tickets to see him ( he termed that fraudulent ).
9. He’s demanding an unqualified official apology for his team, fans, and brand.
10. He advised that promoters should treat Ghanaian artistes with respect and also follow agreements put in place and not only think about the money they will get from patrons.
